On Wednesday, 18 March, Spouse and I boarded a plane and flew to Kailua-Kona, on the west side of the Island of Hawai’i (aka “Big Island”.) There are still quite a few tourists here in Hawai’i, despite the Governor’s request that visitors stay home. Since we were already here, we decided to stay.<\/p>\n
Frankly, it is …

\n…safer here in Hawai’i than back home where new cases of Covid-19 are detected daily, and people are dying from the disease. For a little while, we want to maintain our freedom from worry and hassles of being home-bound which we will do once we return home.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, 19 March, we drove to Hilo on the East side of the island to visit a dear friend. I once supported her organization with grants that I approved in my former job from which I recently retired.<\/p>\n
Returning to Kona, I drove through the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Admission was free since not much was open. (Darn! My “senior park pass” wasn’t needed!)<\/p>\n

On Friday, after a lazy start, we went to a beach. Public beaches are still open. Most people ignore the Lifeguard yelling the meaningless “practice social distancing.” I spoke with him and advised that it would be better to say, “stay at least 6 feet or 2 meters apart.” That actually worked… people spread out.<\/p>\n
I played in the water a little bit, but the water was kinda rough and I am not a good swimmer. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, back at the AirBnB, we are preparing our own meals, reading, napping, and watching some Netflix — anything to avoid watching daily briefings on TV news. Even though I am retired, I still have access to internal and reliable sources of news that do not feature pandering to that egomaniacal nutjob during daily press-bashing briefings.<\/p>\n
