There has been much in the news about how the United States has fallen into exceptionally low regard on the international stage due to the damage from 45’s failures to act responsibly, pulling out of the Paris climate accord, bullying and nasty reputation, as well as the loons with which he has surrounded himself.<\/p>\n
The crap going on as a result is a direct conflict and assault to my beliefs and patriotism.<\/p>\n
I grew up to be a patriotic citizen and truly believe in the founding principles of what my country was founded on, and the words inscribed…

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Tired of the endless hatred instigated by 45 and his followers, this year I became an active volunteer at a Muslim Community Center in the county where I live.<\/p>\n
I visited an open house at this center last December. I learned more about the Muslim faith. I admit, I did not know much about the faith or the people in my community — my neighbors — who profess the faith.<\/p>\n
I followed up with them by combining my interests in community service with my abilities in teaching U.S. civics, and taught classes to prepare people for the U.S. Citizenship Test. <\/p>\n
I am delighted that four of my students passed with flying red-white-and-blue colors and will be naturalized as U.S. citizens on July 4. What better way to address the negativity in my divided country than by smacking it in the face.<\/p>\n
I will be celebrating with my friends and waving the flag in grand celebration of their hard work and accomplishment in becoming the newest citizens of my country. Yay!<\/p>\n
Some think that because I do not show up at almost weekly protest marches in Washington, DC, that I do not care. Yeah, I do. But I show how I care by actually doing something with tangible results. That’s how I am.<\/p>\n
